Template or Custom Software? How to Decide (Demo)
Not every idea needs custom software, and no template is cheap in the long run just because it launches quickly. A simple decision framework.
The question repeats: should we build custom software or start with an off-the-shelf solution? The answer depends on what makes your business different, not on budget alone.
When off-the-shelf fits
If your needs are standard — a brochure site, a blog, a simple store — a ready product gets you to market faster and cheaper. Test speed, security and Arabic support before committing.
When custom becomes necessary
When your process is the advantage: special pricing rules, complex approval flows, or integrations the product cannot support. That is when a template starts forcing compromises and fragile add-ons accumulate.
Total cost of ownership
Calculate three years, not one month: licences, add-ons, team time, and the cost of migrating later. Custom software is sometimes cheaper overall even when its first number is higher.
A practical rule
Start with the smallest version that delivers value, and build only what differentiates you. Use the best ready-made tool for everything standard.
